The LD-12 Meet and Shoot held on 9 May at the Gen Joe Foss Shooting Complex was a great way to spend a Saturday morning exercising our 2nd Amendment rights. We started with breakfast and a short meeting after approximately 40 people gathered in the Range Complex meeting room. Manny Alvarez, one of the certified Range Control Officers, provided an orientation and briefing on firearm safety on the range. After our training, the group hit the range!
Shooters are a generous crowd who freely share of their firearms. Everyone who wanted to shoot, was able to fire a variety of firearms from pistols to high-power rifles. Even the media from the West Valley View who showed up to cover the event joined in the fun.
A special thanks to the Meet and Shoot Committee for making this a successful event enjoyed by all. Committee members included: Joe Hobbs, Christina Miller, Suzanne Carson, Bobbie Watts and Anne Watts. These LD-12 Republicans really stepped up to bring breakfast, collect the monies and provide firearms as well as instruction.
The Gen Joe Foss Shooting Complex staff was very accommodating and invited us back for future events. The Complex is managed by the Buckeye Sportsman Club and also markets the shooting range.
Based on the success of the Meet and Shoot, several suggested we conduct future Meet and Shoots to expand interest and underscore our Republican principle to hold sacred the Bill of Rights - especially the 2nd Amendment. Recent proposed gun legislation has created a run on ammunition supplies throughout the country.
The idea of Republicans getting out to the range and exercising our 2nd Amendment Rights was proposed by Allan Korwin when he addressed the April MCRC Executive Guidance Committee ( http://www.keepandbeararms.com/information/XcIBViewItem.asp?ID=3060). LD-12 followed through and, thanks to our Meet and Shoot Committee, we made a statement. Look for coverage in next week's West Valley View.

Based on the success of the Meet and Shoot, the LD-12 Executive Committee will consider an October 09 and February 10 event. These are the best times of the year for the outdoor range. Great opportunity for fellowship and relaxation in the heat of our next election cycle.
Thanks to all participants and especially Hickman Farms who donated "eggs on a stick" for our breakfast. |
